Laurent Combier: "For the whites just as for the reds, I really have the impression that there are infinite possibilities for Crozes Hermitage"

Crozes Hermitage - June 22, 2015 - Domaine Combier has just unveiled the 2014 vintage of its Crozes Hermitage white wines, a vintage characterised by “the exuberance of its fruit and its minerality”. While the Clos des Grives white 2014 won’t be available until after the 1st October 2016, the Domaine Combier white and the Cuvee Laurent Combier white are both available now in specialist wine shops and restaurants around France and Europe.

Laurent Combier: “The great white wines of Crozes Hermitage possess a potential which is still largely underestimated. There are some magnificent terroirs and two grape varieties, Roussanne and Marsanne, that can, alone or blended, produce absolutely exceptional wines. For the whites just as much as for the reds, I really have the impression that there are infinite possibilities for Crozes Hermitage. Over the last 20 years, the greatness of the terroir has been revealed: its potential was vastly underrated prior to that. There are also some big surprises in store for the next 20 years, and we’ll see the white wines gain their rightful acclaim within the appellation.”

The Crozes-Hermitage Domaine Combier white 2014 is a blend of old vine Marsanne (80%) and Roussanne (20%), of which 60% is aged in vats and 40% in oak casks for complexity and depth, with a mineral structure that underlines the finesse of the fruit.
More accessible in its youth, the Cuvee Laurent Combier (100% Marsanne) offers perfect equilibrium between the exuberance of Marsanne and the minerality of the soils. Meticulous winemaking and 100% ageing in stainless steel vats preserve the delicious freshness of the fruit and its varietal purity.

Stretching over 30 hectares, the Domaine Combier vineyards extend from the north to the south of the Crozes Hermitage terroir. The 3 white wines are mainly produced in the south over limestone clay soils with a covering of round river stones. The rare cuvee Clos des Grives white, from old roussanne, offers incomparable complexity and ageing potential. You will have to wait until the autumn to discover the subtlety of its aromas.
