Venice, July 16th - The Venice reflected in Penelope’s “Forgotten Spaces. All that is left behind” will be a secret, intimate and dreamlike one. “Forgotten Spaces. All that is left behind” is an exhibition that will be unveiled on July 23rd in the magnificent areas of Hotel Danieli.

What is missed by the millions of people who visit the Serenissima every year? Which walled rooms, historical homes and secluded gardens manage to elude the gaze of the distracted tourists and native Venetians every day? The city of the Doges hides infinite secrets that the artist’s documentary exhibition reveals and reinterprets, through a voyage of research of what time has hidden to the eyes and safeguarded in the limbo of memory. From stage to stage the works of art by Penelope draw their life’s breath from the preparatory photographs that the artist took in the lagoon and are an integral part of the creative trail framed against the background of Hotel Danieli.

Apparently casual objects that the artist’s sensibility came across, either by chance or destiny, form the tangible support on which the unusual painted and drawn depictions of the city are based. Just as the grand Venice has its ancient origins on a group of stilt houses, so Penelope weaves her universal tale around humble objects, corroded wood, canvases hanging in the fine balance between departure and permanence, interior and exterior, past and future.

The event scheduled for July 23rd winds its way around all the hotel’s floors, creating a sense of interaction between researched objects, works of art and architecture, in a dialogue that spans the centuries, materials and light sources that perfectly match the boundless complexity of the city. The melting pot of six centuries of history and identity that is Hotel Danieli is the ideal setting to host the works of art by Penelope, which will be on display until September 9th: hidden corners, frozen in time, are safeguarded in its legendary spaces waiting to release their sparkle when they encounter the visitors. On July 25th from 13:00 to 20:00 it will also be possible to visit the exhibition guided by Penelope herself with the tours starting each hour.

The rediscovery of “All that is left behind” will also be reflected upon by the hotel’s Executive Chef, Dario Parascandolo, who will create a series of dishes inspired by the exhibition and its crucial twists and turns. The dishes will be masterful reinterpretations of forgotten local ingredients, bringing them back to life and allowing them to interact with ‘the present’. The chef’s creations, which will be served in Ristorante Terrazza Danieli for the entire duration of the exhibition, will be paired with a selection of wines put forward by Bisol, Maeli and Venissa , the perfect seal for an unforgettable experience of the taste buds. A dish and a wine for each of the four underlying themes that Penelope has used to weave together her artistic motif, following long walks of discovery through the city: Crunchy cylinder with dry cod paired with Bisol’s “Private Cartizze” for the abandoned factories, Go rice from Burano with Maeli’s “Bianco Infinito” for the islands, Duck ‘oca onta di corte’ with Rosso Venissa for the cloisters and Venetian primrose pudding with Maelli’s “Fiori d’Arancio” for the gardens.

The first wine to be tasted in the Sala Ducale, hosting the works of art “Forgotten Industries” is Bisol’s re-fermentation in the bottle zero dosage Private Cartizze, a limited collection of numbered bottles, the fruit of half a century of research which comes to life after 11 months in the bottle.

In the Danieli Wine Suite, which will play host to the works of art “Forgotten Islands”, the chef’s dishes will be paired with Bianco Infinito from the Maeli winery a splendid reality set in the Euganean Hills with Elisa Dilavanzo at the helm. In the setting of the “Forgotten Cloister” series, on the Second Piano Nobile, Rosso Venissa, a collector’s gem from the vineyards of Santa Cristina island in the heart of native Venice, will be presented.

The last stage, on the First Piano Nobile, will cover the theme of “Forgotten Gardens” where the guest will be able to raise glasses of Maeli’s Fior D’Arancio, an authentic symbol of the Euganean Hills.

The inaugural events and the main exhibition of Forgotten Spaces will create a passage between past and future, allowing the guests to breathe in the rediscovered history of a city that loves to be on show but one that also needs to be listened to and seen from up close so as to be known for that it truly is in the full glory of all its facets, colours, shadows and forgotten silence.
