Two families who share an identical passion for wine and display constant attention towards innovation: as from today, the Marzotto and Sanna families will be working together – with even greater determination than before – to introduce the products of Sardinia around the world, and in particular its noble grape varieties: Vermentino, Carignano del Sulcis and Cannonau.

The Santa Margherita Wine Group has now in fact acquired the majority shareholding in Cantina Mesa, based at Porto Pino, in the Sulcis Iglesiente region of southwestern Sardinia. Cantina Mesa was founded by Gavino Sanna, one of the great contemporary masters in the world of advertising and communication, who will remain an important stockholder and will continue to play a significant role in the NewCo.

Cantina Mesa is a wine producer with around 70 hectares of vineyards, lying in the midst of Mediterranean scrubland and looking out over one of the most beautiful seas in the world.

Thanks to its modern winery and the great care devoted to its vineyards, Cantina Mesa has been one of the protagonists in the renaissance and rediscovery of the fine wines of Sardinia. It has an annual production of almost 750,000 bottles and forecast turnover in 2017 of around 4 million Euros.

«With the entry into the company of the Marzotto family, with whom we have always been very close friends, a new period of growth is opening up for Cantina Mesa» underlines Gavino Sanna. «We have laid the foundations for the large-scale projection of our wines on foreign markets, thus confirming their absolute worth and bringing new investment to this Region in the heart of the Mediterranean, in support of its great vocation for agriculture and sustainability».

«Cantina Mesa is a treasure in our part of the Mediterranean: we had been looking for some time for an opportunity in Sardinia, an island with great winemaking potential which deserves to have investments for growth on an international scale, because of the quality and genuineness of its people, land and wines» adds Gaetano Marzotto, President of the Santa Margherita Wine Group. «This collaboration should be seen as a sign of our Group’s desire to complete its presence in those Italian Regions that have the greatest traditions of high-quality viticulture. We are seeking out the most interesting producers with a great story to tell, so that we can project them into a much larger international dimension thanks to the fact that we have a strong presence in no less than ninety foreign markets».

«Our Group is broadening its horizons yet further with this acquisition in Sardinia, along with the added benefit of having three grape varieties of enormous potential: Vermentino, the Mediterranean white wine par excellence, and two indigenous cultivars of indubitable quality like Carignano del Sulcis and Cannonau» states Ettore Nicoletto, CEO of the Santa Margherita Wine Group. «These are wines that are perfect for wine lovers all over the world, especially the new generations like the millennials, because they have a story, they have distinctive characteristics, and also an intimate link with their terroir: they have a uniqueness that should be promoted and protected. The Santa Margherita Wine Group will put at the disposal of Cantina Mesa all of its know-how and its sales network around the world, so as to make these excellent products better known and develop their potential to the best of our ability».
